During this year’s Flood safety awareness week i.e from 15th to 21st March 2010, Federal Emergency Management Agency’s FloodSmart Campaign and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are coming together to create an enhanced awareness regarding the floods and the associated damages they cause. NOAA is planning to release this year’s flood outlook on 16th March.

FEMA and NOAA have created an interactive “flood impact map” which gives loads of information regarding the floods, their impact and the things one have to do during and after the floods. It can be found at www.floodsmart.gov/noaa

NOAA is also stressing the slogan “Turn Around, Don’t Drown!” in order to create an awareness about the motor accidents that occur during flood times.

Since the flood insurance policies generally take around 30 days to become valid, this would be the best time to take one if you don’t have it already.

For more details about floods and flood insurance check out FEMA’s website at www.floodsmart.gov

The flood season is lying ahead and so do your best to tackle them. Right from educating yourself about floods to putting together a flood emergency kit and to going for flood insurance, do your best.
